Young Reporters at the UN

Step into the shoes of a journalist for a day!

Young Reporters at the UN

This activity offers young people an immersive experience at the heart of the United Nations in Geneva. They conduct interviews and create reports on global issues, thus developing their journalistic skills and understanding of international relations.

Press conferences are organized specially for Secondary II pupils. They are scheduled duringthe school year and cover a different theme each time. Speakers and experts from various international organizations are invited to share their expertise on current affairs. Young reporters attend the press conference, take notes and ask questions as if they are journalists.

During and/or after the conferences, the reporters’ mission is to spread information whether to their class, school or through their personal network. They can do that by writing a press article, participating in a radio program, making a video report or by engaging through social networks.

Before the conference, it is essential that students discuss the topic with their teachers.
In addition, to optimize the exchanges, preparation is recommended using the following materials:

An information kit: an introduction to the topic, providing an overview of the current situation, accompanied by useful links (news articles, videos, publications).

A journalistic tips sheet: to help ask relevant questions and write press articles effectively.
