Competition 2019/2020

A look back at this year’s edition
Despite the complicated situation linked to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Eduki competition “Take action for peace! ” was successfully concluded. Among the 70 projects submitted by more than 2’200 participants from 13 cantons, the juries selected the prize winners of the competition and the Françoise Demole Award. The winners can be found below in four videos hosted by Bruno Peki and Laure Bacchiocchi.

Eduki and its partners congratulate all the participants for the quality of their work and their commitment. We look forward to seeing you in 2021 for a new edition of the competition!

Awarded Projects
The projects, divided into categories (artistic, media, and concrete action), were awarded by the jury members. The 1st and 2nd prizes for each school level (primary, secondary I & II) in each category, as well as any special mentions, were awarded.
Combien de murs ?
HPI group / Villars-Vert et Avry Schools (FR)
As part of the national Eduki competition 2019/2020, students from the HPI group (high intellectual potential) of the schools of Villars-Vert and Avry in the canton of Friborg produced an interactive play on the theme of peaceful societies. Their goal is to show the play in schools and to encourage other children to reflect on what constitutes peace. This project allowed them to understand that peace is not only the absence of war and that we all have the power to work for peace at our level.
Frieden, Respekt, Toleranz
Schmerikon Middle School – Schmerikon (SG)
As part of the national Eduki competition 2019/2020, students from the Schmerikon school in the canton of St. Gallen carried out a project to further promote peace, respect and tolerance in their city. After a trip to Munich where they met Abba Naor, a Holocaust survivor during the Second World War, they wanted to continue their reflection through the Eduki competition. This project allowed them to reflect more on the different ways to promote peace, on the Sustainable Development Goals and on the impact that these goals can have in their everyday lives.
Une vague de paix sur toute l’école
Saint-Guérin Middle School – Sion (VS)
As part of the national Eduki competition 2019/2020, students in an adaptation class of the secondary school of Saint-Guérin in the canton of Valais carried out a project aimed at strengthening peace throughout their school. In order to do this, in collaboration with other students of the school, they carried out several small projects. For example they created a comic book, a radio program and a class council. The whole project made it possible to improve the relations between the pupils of the special group with those of the other classes therefore promoting inclusiveness. They were also able to promote the notions of sharing and tolerance and understand that without peace, sustainable development is impossible.
A Serious Game: escape game pédagogique sur les migrations
Collège et école de commerce Émilie-Giroud — Genève (GE)
As part of the national Eduki competition 2019/2020, the students of the Emilie-Gourd high school in the canton of Geneva have carried out a project to experiment the trajectory of migrants through an educational Escape Game. This project allowed them to better understand the issue of migration and to reflect on the difficult journeys that some migrants can make. Ultimately, this project allowed them to develop skills that foster peace such as collaboration and communication.
Jai Jagat à de Saussure
Collège de Saussure – Lancy (GE)
As part of the national competition Eduki 2019/2020, the De Saussure highschool in the canton of Geneva carried out a school project in connection with the Jai Jagat 2020 world march for peace which started in New Delhi in October 2019 and whose arrival in Geneva was planned for the fall of 2020. The objective of this project is to make everyone at the school aware of the Sustainable Development Goals and the challenges of globalization. This project allowed the students of the school to reflect on the place of international Geneva as a centre for global consultation, and to understand that all the issues associated with the SDGs are interdependent.

Collège du Chauchy – St-Prex (VD)
As part of the national Eduki competition 2019/2020, 1-2P students and their teacher from the “Collège du Chauchy” primary school in St-Prex in the canton of Vaud produced posters and a video on the theme of gender. More specifically on stereotypes and the influence of various very stereotypical advertisements. This project allowed them to reflect on the role of men and women in the family and at work, prejudices and stereotypes in everyday life and this from early childhood.
Le livre sur la Paix et la Terre
Etablissement primaire Coppet-Terre Sainte (VD)
As part of the national Eduki competition 2019/2020, the students of the primary school of Coppet – Terre Sainte in the canton of Vaud produced a book on the theme of peace in the form of an alphabet book. They previously visited the UN office in Geneva which inspired their project. This project allowed them to collect reflections and thoughts on the theme of peace and the earth. They were also able to make links between the various Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and current events while understanding the importance of these goals and the need for their achievement by 2030.
Unsere Plastikwelt
Schule Waidhalde – Zürich (ZH)
As part of the national Eduki competition 2019/2020, students from the Waidhalde primary school in the city of Zürich have produced a pop-up book on the theme of the environment. This project allowed them to reflect on ideas to reduce the use of plastic in their daily lives and to become aware of the damage caused by pollution. In addition, the pupils became aware of the link between problem in the environment, and the fact that it is often also the poorest countries with greater inequality who suffer from problems linked to climate change. The students finally thought of different ways to create a more egalitarian world in order to promote peace.
Raconte-moi une histoire d’un nouveau genre …
Cycle d’orientation du Foron – Genève (GE)
As part of the national Eduki competition 2019/2020, the students of the Collège du Foron in the canton of Geneva produced two tales which underlign certain prejudices and stereotypes imposed by society. Both tales have in common that they focus on a teenager at school but both tales also open the debate on very current themes such as the migration crisis, the fight against global warming, the fight against harassment at school and for education for all. Finally, this project enabled the sutdents to realize that to make a more peaceful, just and inclusive world, the prejudices and stereotypes which they illustrated in their tales must be fought.
The Shield
Ecole Internationale de Genève – La Châtaigneraie (VD)
As part of the national Eduki competition 2019/2020, students from the International School of Geneva, La Châtaigneraie in the canton of Vaud produced an art piece on the theme of peace. The students collectively participated in the creation of the mural representing war and peace by portraits of people who have acted for peace throughout history, against a background representing a cloud caused by an atomic bomb. The purpose of this work is to raise awareness in their school of the importance of establishing peace for all. Finally, this project allowed them to thank in their own way all the people who participated directly or indirectly in the creation of a more peaceful world by honoring in this artwork.
Peace and Love-Hymne
Gymnase de Renens – Renens (VD)
As part of the national Eduki competition 2019/2020, a student from the Renens Highschool in the canton of Vaud performed a “Hymn of peace”. This musical project allowed her to express her feelings towards the situations of violence and injustice that some people endure. Through music she was able to denounce and condemn the use of violence. In addition, through this hymn of peace and love, the student wished to make people aware of the current challenges that our world is facing.
Une table pour la paix
Formation obligatoire jusqu’à 18 ans – Genève (GE)
As part of the national Eduki competition 2019/2020, students from the FO18 program (Compulsory training up to 18 years old) in the canton of Geneva produced a table for peace. This artistic project illustrates a round table around which actors can exchange and reconcile their differences. This project allowed them to tackle themes related to human rights and international Geneva. The pupils were able to reflect on the themes of the competition being peace and justice, and finally to create links between these concepts and other important themes such as the environment, education and migration.
La paix : plus facile à dire qu’à faire…
École de Pinchat – Vessy (GE)
As part of the national Eduki competition 2019/2020, students from Pinchat primary school in the canton of Geneva produced two radio programs dealing with the theme of peace. The name of this first program is “Peace, easier said than done”. This project allowed them to reflect on this theme by looking for significant events in favor of peace. Finally, each student was able to express themselves and give their opinion on an event which for them was a factor of peace.

Terrain d’aventures Lancy-Voirets – Lancy (GE)
As part of the national Eduki competition 2019/2020, a group of children from the Lancy-Voirets Adventure Field in the canton of Geneva produced a song on the theme of peace. This project allowed them to reflect and express themselves on what peace represents to them while having fun and experimenting with different musical instruments.
Say Yes to peace
Sekundarschule Appenzell – Appenzell (AI)
As part of the national Eduki competition 2019/2020, students from the secondary school in Appenzell produced a video that illustrates diversity and multiculturalism as the central point of peace. Students focused on encouraging messages in which their personal hopes and dreams are described. This project allowed them to realize that a peaceful, just and inclusive life is only possible if we respect and accept one another.
La Paix du Monde
Cycle d’orientation du Foron – Genève (GE)
As part of the national competition Eduki 2019/2020, the students of the CO du Foron in the canton of Geneva created a website which aims to raise public awareness of what war represents. This project allowed them to collect testimonies from people who lived through a war and to realize the urgency of acting in favor of peace.
Game vs réalité
Centre de Formation Professionnelle Arts – Genève (GE)
As part of the national Eduki competition 2019/2020, three students from the Vocational Training Centre for Arts (CFP art) in Geneva produced this video on the theme of peace and war through video games and their impact. At the same time, the video highlights the life of a fictitious teenager who, himself, will really be subjected to war. This project allowed them to shed light on the paradox of human dissatisfaction. Many people living in peace seek to amuse themselves with war through video games and forget the harsh reality of the war in which many people live.
Homo Detritus
École de culture générale Henry-Dunant – Genève (GE)
As part of the national Eduki competition 2019/2020, the students of the ECG Henry-Dunant in the canton of Geneva produced an awareness raising short film which demonstrates the interdependence between the Sustainable developpement goal on peace and justice (SDG 16) with goals aimed at combating climate change (SDG 13), encouraging recycling or even combating food waste (SDG 12). This project allowed them to reflect on our society and our way of life. It also allowed them to realize that wasting food is an act of violence against man and the planet. Finally, they highlight pollution as a source of conflict that hampers world peace.
