F.A.Q.

Frequently Asked Questions about the Eduki National Competition.

General Questions

  • Why participate in the Eduki competition?

Open to all classes, from primary to secondary II throughout Switzerland, this competition allows students to raise awareness about sustainable development by expressing and becoming agents of change, sharing their vision for the future through artistic projects, media productions, or concrete actions. Discover past editions.

  • What are the evaluation criteria for the projects?

The criteria vary depending on the chosen category (artistic work, media project or concrete action). They consider relevance to the theme, the process followed, commitment, originality, and the quality of the work. For concrete actions, feasibility and expected impact are also assessed. The full criteria are available in the General Rules of the Eduki Competition and the Françoise Demole Scholarship.
  • Level of autonomy: What involvement from teachers is required?

The projects must be carried out by the participants, but with the support of a teacher or educational staff member. The students’ involvement should be visible throughout the process (idea development, realization). For more information, consult the General Rules of the Eduki Competition and the Françoise Demole Scholarship.

  • In which languages can projects be submitted?

In French, German, Italian or English.

Registrations and submissions

  • How do I choose my category?

Groups must choose a type of project (artistic work, media production or concrete action). For examples of activities and to help you design your project, consult the educational concept. For detailed instructions, see the General Rules of the Eduki Competition and the Françoise Demole Scholarship.

  • Can Swiss schools outside of Switzerland participate?

No, only schools (public or private) located in Switzerland are eligible to participate.

  • Is there a maximum number of students per group for participation?

No, there is no limit on the number of participants per group. You can take part individually, in a small group, as a full class, or even on behalf of the entire school. In the previous edition, for example, an entire school submitted a project. Matura projects carried out by one or two people were also submitted.

  • Can students register individually?

Only a teacher or school staff member can create a profile in the “Online personal portal”. He or she is responsible for filling in the online forms for the various phases of the competition (registration and submission).

  • Does the project need to be finalized for submission?

Not necessarily. In the “Concrete Action” category, the project can be an idea, in progress, or already completed within the 12 months before the submission deadline. In the categories “artwork” or “media creation”, the project generally needs to be finalized, but exceptions can be made, such as for a written theater piece whose performance is scheduled after the submission deadline. If you have any doubts, contact the Eduki team via the contact form.
  • What is a media creation?

A media creation refers to an audiovisual or digital creation, such as a video report, a short film (documentary or fiction), a street interview, a radio show, a website, a video game, or a music video. Submissions must be in MP4 (video) or MP3 (audio). If you have any doubts, contact us.
  • What is an artwork?

Artworks can include visual arts (drawing, painting, photography, sculpture), literature (poetry, short stories, comics), performing arts (theater, dance), or digital art (photo editing, digital illustrations). If you have any doubts, contact us.

  • What is a concrete action?

A concrete action is a project that has been carried out or imagined in connection with the theme of the competition, and that unfolds in a real-life context — such as a school, a neighbourhood, or a city. It may be: a project idea (still in the design phase), an ongoing project, or a completed project, if it was implemented within the 12 months prior to the submission deadline. Submissions must include a presentation video of the project, no longer than 2 minutes, in MP4 format.

  • Do “Concrete Action” projects receive financial support?

In general, no, except for the most remarkable projects in the “Concrete Action” category for secondary II. These projects may receive financial support through the Françoise Demole Award, up to CHF 10,000. For more information, consult the General Rules of the Eduki Competition and the Françoise Demole Scholarship.

  • Can a project already planned within the school framework be submitted?

Yes, you can link your submission to a project carried out in a school context, as long as it meets the Contest’s criteria. In previous editions, accepted projects included a Sustainable Development Week, a Media Week, the creation of a school ethics charter, or a final-year thesis/project.

  • How should sources be cited?

All external sources used (texts, images, music, videos, etc.) must be clearly referenced, regardless of the project format. This can be done, for example, in a separate document or in the end credits of a video. The key is to ensure the references are easy to identify.
  • What are the copyright and intellectual property guidelines?

In order to ensure that the projects can be distributed freely (online, at exhibitions, etc.), please use only royalty-free content or content created by the participants. If you wish to use a protected work, please ensure that you obtain prior written authorization, cite your sources or, if this is not possible, contact the Eduki team. All external sources used (texts, images, music, videos, etc.) must be clearly mentioned, whatever the format of the project. This can be done, for example, in a separate document or in the credits at the end of a video. The essential condition is that the references are easily identifiable.
  • What are the criteria for evaluating the project?

The evaluation criteria depend on the chosen category (artwork, media creation or concrete action). They consider relevance to the theme, the process followed, commitment, originality, and overall quality. For concrete actions, feasibility and expected impact are also evaluated. The full criteria are available in the General Rules of the Eduki Competition and the Françoise Demole Scholarship.
  • I’m not sure if my project is developed enough to submit, what should I do?

Don’t worry—there’s no need to have a perfect or large-scale project to take part. What matters is that the theme has been explored with the students and that concrete ideas have been developed. Please note: only participants who submit their project before 28.02.2026 will be invited to the award ceremony in Geneva!
  • Who decides the winners?

Each competition category is evaluated by an external jury made up of qualified experts in the relevant field. The Françoise Demole Award is conferred by a designated committee.

  • Will submitted projects be published?

Yes. By participating, students agree that their work may be shared free of charge by Eduki, especially on our website or during exhibitions. Authors are always credited.
  • What are the most important instructions for audio or audiovisual production in the media creation category?

Any audio or audiovisual production submitted to the jury must not exceed three minutes. That said, it can be an excerpt or summary of your project, whether it is a podcast, a short film, or another type of creation. You may also include a link to the full version as an attachment, which the jury will review if needed. This short format allows you to present your work effectively while ensuring that all projects are evaluated within the allotted time.

  • Is it possible to submit a project that was already started or completed before the registration period opened?

Yes, a project may already be completed or in progress, provided it was finished or started within the 12 months prior to the opening of registrations. If the project is already completed, it must still be possible to continue it. For more information, please consult the General Rules of the Eduki Competition and the Françoise Demole Scholarship.

  • Is it possible to submit a project that has not yet been completed by the submission deadline?

Yes, a project may be submitted even if it has not yet been completed by the submission deadline, provided that the idea has already been developed and parts of the project are underway or planned.
